Vale Darren West

Co-Founder of Seedlab Australia
There would be no Seedlab without Darren West. Darren’s contributions to all facets of Seedlab: the team, the program, the back of house systems and resources, the participants, and to Woolworths, has at all times been significant and immense. His intelligence, dry humour and patience made even the most difficult work engaging and worthwhile.
In October 2024 we very suddenly and unexpectedly lost Darren to brain cancer. In typical Darren fashion, he faced his illness with logic and strategy for ensuring the Seelab business continued smoothly. He made plans, he met with the team, he wrote instructions, passwords and advice. He worked at future-proofing the business. He did his best for others, as always.
His death has left an enormous hole in the Seedlab universe, and we have all caught ourselves thinking “What would Darren do in this situation?” And together the team continue to find the answers to that question. That’s what Darren would do. He would find the answers.
Darrens life legacy is enormous. Seedlab is a family business, and Darren was also husband and business partner to Hazel, Seedlab CEO, and step-father to Kenna, our COO. Our team are all friends as well as colleagues. His untimely death is a great loss to us all. Many businesses and individuals have benefited from being in Darren’s circle, and both his family and his Seedlab family are very grateful for his impact on us.
Vale Darren. You are so dearly loved.
